The Fruit of E-beth's Work

From the first day of school, we already have plans on what are we going to do in our play. We are already competitive during those days and until now. Second year students are already known as spirited and want-to-be-best students. Good for us that we do not take that competition as a threat to the bond of the sophomores. As the days pass by, us, E-beths, became more serious and tougher. Pressure and stress flooded and friendship became a more important matter. So, let me tell you what really happened in our journey to ripe up the fruit.
In our CAE play, Mr. Jomel Guintivano, our CAE teacher, suggested the story of “King and I”. I became more interested because I already seen the movie of it and became more excited for the characters. They began choosing scriptwriters. I also want to but my schedule is the barrier of it. I would always go home at Capiz during weekends and they would do the script at Saturdays. But, it’s okay.  After reading the script, I was so excited that my imaginations would just pop out of my mind. In our double period at Thursday, we began choosing characters. From the Major ones, up to the minor roles. We were so shocked because Mr. Guintivano chose upside down. Gabrielle Torres and Althea Parreno who auditioned for the Prince and servant girl was picked as the King and Ms. Anna. While Isza Cuello and Iris Nonato who chose to audition for King ang Ms. Anna became the prince and the servant girl. I was picked as a little princess and the most beloved child of the king. I was Princess Ying. At first, I was a little bit confused and did not trust the sense of Mr. Guintivano. Until he explained why. On that day, I was hoping it was the right decision.
Play rehearsals. The most enjoyable part of our journey. Almost every day and every end of the class, we would always practice. We sacrificed our time, effort and even our money (for the props ) . We really had a good time and knew each other very well. Some showed their true colors and their hidden skills to be the best. We also showed how much we really cared for our play. Some students would not take it seriously and treated it as a joke. There are times where I would also be lazy and do not have the drive to practice. While we are getting near and near, pressure and stress continued on falling. Good thing there is Ms. Tina Olvido, our class adviser, who continued to support us.
Now, TDR came. It was so smooth. Everyone did their best. I was not too nervous because I am already used to it. Props, make-up, costumes, etc., were already in place. Our time slot should be at 1:00-2:40. But St. Anne took our slot. So they had 10:20-3:00. We already finished our TDR at 6:00. Mr. Albaña is our critic. After we finished our TDR, we gathered at the center and listened to Mr. Albaña’s critic. We are really open and accepted it as a constructive criticism to make us stronger, tougher and better than the best. Among the other sections, we are considered as the smooth one. And I am so proud to it. And that is the fruit of St. Elizabeth’s hard-but-worth-it work!

VIAJE...

Often the answer as to why people travel is a mix of reason, and some people just want to get away from their home and find peace and seclusion. Many people lead a very hectic life these days with busy jobs and lots of responsibilities beside as well, and getting away from all of this for a period can be really important and necessary. Travelling can be fulfilling in so many ways, so it’s quite easy to understand why more and more people take time to travel whenever they can.

My parents spent many years working outside the Philippines, so it is safe to assume that everytime they are here for vacation, they opted to bond with family and friends inside the vicinity of our own country.

As far as I can remember, my travels would always include Panay region and Manila which is much accessible at present time. The first time I had my trip to Manila and experienced a ride from Philippine Airlines was when I attended the wedding of my Aunt and I was 4 years old then. 2 years after, I went to Cebu and Manila with my parents, and we actually fetched my Mom from Naia prior to Cebu trip. I had a vivid recall with those moments since I am so young but I knew that I did enjoy it so much because I am a playful child. Boracay in Kalibo, Aklan is a constant vacation haven for the entire family understandably because it is only few hours drive from my hometown and about 15-20 minutes bangka ride going to the main station.I went in Boracay as early as 2 years old and almost every year, my grandparents or my parents would take time to bring me in that fabulous island.

I also have a few recollection of our Tagaytay and Batangas Trip when I am included in the wedding entourage of my Mom's friend in Batangas and we grabbed the opportunity to visit Tagaytay with my cousins and Mom...

I always wanted to visit Disneyland in Tokyo, Japan and my parents had booked a ticket for us when I graduated from my elementary, but due to uncalled death of my grandfather (the uncle of my mom) they cancelled the trip.Anyways, I can still enjoy the pleasure of what Star City and Enchanted Kingdom could bring, thus....it can wait...:)

Travelling is a family affair for me and it is always memorable because we got to be reunited with our relatives from different places, and it is really exciting to explore the beaches, resorts and various malls from different cities.

It is somehow a cut from the budget of my parents but the effect of travelling in our lives somehow brings a refreshing outcome. to be in a place new to us, aprreciate the wonder of nature, meeting new friends, learning cultures and traditions are just some of the wonders a travel can bring...

That is why we need to travel. If we don’t offer ourselves to the unknown, our senses dull. Our world becomes small and we lose our sense of wonder. Our eyes don’t lift to the horizon; our ears don’t hear the sounds around us. The edge is off our experience, and we pass our days in a routine that is both comfortable and limiting. We wake up one day and find that we have lost our dreams in order to protect our days.

MY FRIENDS.....!

"Friends are like melons, shall I tell you why?
To find a good one, you must have a hundred try."

This is how I defined FRIENDSHIP years ago, and until now, it is my favorite line when the topic is about friendship. We met different kinds of people everyday. Some may have an instant connection or you simply get along with each other well. Some may have an awkward beginning and ended up to be either the best of friends or the worst of enemies.

Friendship is a feeling of comfort and emotional safety with a person. It is when you do not have to weigh your thoughts and measure words, before keeping it forth before your friend. It is when someone knows you better than yourself and assures to be your side in every emotional crisis. It is when you can sleep fighting and get another morning with a better understanding. Friendship is much beyond roaming together and sharing good moments, it is when someone comes to rescue you from the worst phase of life. Friendship is eternal.

Different people have different definitions of friendship. For some, it is the trust in an individual that he / she won't hurt you. A true friend is there for you no matter what. They don't lie to you. They also keep their promises. They also don't stab you in the back. For others, it is unconditional love. There are some who feel that friendship is companionship. People form definitions based on the kind of experiences they have had. This is one relation that has been nurtured since time immemorial. There are famous stories about friends in mythologies of different religions all over the world. They say a person who has found a faithful friend has found a priceless treasure.

Friendship is everlasting and is much ahead than sharing good times and roaming together. A friend is a companion who accepts your all bad and good qualities with an initiative to mend as well as correct them. True friendship, perhaps is the only relation which survives the tribulations and trials of time as well as remains unconditional......

All About ..... Journalism......!

Journalism is one of my favorite subjects in school. Wayback in my grade school years, I knew that I have passion for writing and an enthusiast of English diction and grammar. I admit it is a challenging subject though for someone whose interest on the said subject is tremendously rising, it's actually a lot of fun. When I stepped on my sophomore year in AC Iloilo, I embraced the reality of facing more difficult subjects, adjust to new teachers.

In all honesty, my first impression to our Journalism Teacher,Mr. Paul Vincent Geraño, is that he's kinda strict and straightforward type of a facilitator. In a way, it's true. He is really strict and has a high standard when it comes to his expectation from the students. Ironically, behind the strict composure of our teacher, lies a person who has his own unique way of teaching his students to learn in a fun, hard way.He is perfectionist, meticulous and idealistic (well, that's my own opinion..:, but I guess a lot would agree. It made me learned so much. I have never been so keen observer of what is happening around me. I started to read pile of newspapers at home, include daily google headlines on my net surfing, adding CNN, NBC, TV Patrol, Sapul sa 5, to my couch potato moments....

I am very much into current events these days and Im sure that Journalism is one of the factors that made me be like this...I am indeed grateful, from proper use of grammar and spelling – to the intangible yet valuable – critical thinking and logic. It enabled me to be more independent, do intelligent research and collaborate effectively in person as well as on the Internet. Brainstorming sessions can be very lively, and the process encourages us to be aware of the world around us, so we can suggest or think of interesting topics.

I am thankful to my teacher, Sir Geraño, because you never cease to teach and share your knowledge on us. I am grateful and humbled. I know I am yet to encounter much teachings and learning, but I am willing to improve my craft, hungry to learn for more and I hope one day I can be someone that my teacher can be proud of. Freedom, respect and trust, and high expectations: these are the the ingredients of a thriving learning environment, and they are inherent in school journalism, they were imparted to us by our Journalism Teacher...More power to you Sir!!!and for us,,,II- Elizabeth,,,and the rest of the sophomore,,,,Good Luck and God bless us all!!!:)

My Family.... (Hiñola - Mayo)

Daddy, Mommy and Me....The family that I love the most....No words can actually best describe the kind of family I have...It's not a perfect one,,,but for me,,I can never imagine having another Dad and Mom apart from them....They are my pillar of strength, source of inspiration and the reason of my happy being..I want to share some things about the family I'm into....

He is my father. Leo Libo-on Mayo is the name. He is 36 years old, youngest son to a Politician and Businesswoman from Cuartero, Capiz. He is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering. He is still employed at Elburg Shipmanning Services Phils. Inc.,an Italian-owned Manning Agency. My Dad is a Seafarer who is often away from us due to call of duty and employment obligation. Yet everytime he is on vacation, he makes sure that he spends quality time with me and Mom. He is a loving Dad who teaches me to respect other people as much as I wanted to be respected, always keep my feet on the ground no matter how successful I am, and most of all, to be a God fearing person because without God, we are nothing. My Dad taught me how to spend my money wisely too. He's such a great Dad, we are so similar. We are playful, comic, humorous , and we love to play with our pets too,,,ironically, my Mom hates pets especially cat...well,,,,,:)My Dad's interest is on cars and house designs..He seldom gets mad, he is the quiet type but it makes me go crazy with fear once i felt that he is not happy with what I did..Thats my Daddy...Cool, funny, loving...the Best Dad,,your the man! :)

My Mom. She is Menchie Hiñola- Mayo, 34 years old, a Registered Nurse, and the youngest daughter of a Police Senior Inspector and a Businesswoman. She is the "no nonsense" mom, who keeps every detail of my manners and personality. She is a consistent academic awardee, since grade school, and she is quite a perfectionist. She is my friend, confidante, driver, and mother all in one. For five years, she worked abroad to help my dad earn for a living and its a big change for me to have my Mom beside me since her exit from work last year. Its a pleasing change but its not that easy to cope with Mom's unbelievable wisdom and idealism. She loves reading books, surfing the net, online shopping, fashion designs, watching cooking shows. She is a bit of everything but has a tremendous sense of humor, she'll make you have a hearty laugh with her tricks and anecdotes. She is very supportive of my studies. We go along well with fashion and music. My Mom is a natural critic but I have learned so much from her.

Families are whom we love. Our families all “look” different and it's always been so. I am lucky to belong in a family where love and respect reigns. I am looking forward and we are still hoping to have a sibling in the near future,,but for the moment, I am just enjoying the privilege of being the only child...I thank God for my Family. It is a gift that I cherish the most....:)

Nobody's Perfect...

No human being is perfect. We all make mistakes, yet it is so hard to admit that we are wrong. A famous line from the book Love Story by Eric Segal states that "Love means never having to say you're sorry". This may sound romantic but it is a really bad line to live by. Apologies are necessary in every relationship.. Apologies are the building block of relationships. If a family has any hope of staying together, there will be frequent and sincere apologies. It is an evident sign of humility, acceptance, forgiveness and love. It's so hard to say sorry when your heart is full of pride, but it's more difficult to live a day knowing that you had hurt someone, unintentional somehow, yet it does not liberate the fact that you have offended a person. The past week had me blew out of proportion, I am totally in awe. On the lighter note, I am glad to have a learning experience. It made me slow down, took a breathe and ponder on my own behavior and actions. Oftentimes, I get so hectic and nailed with my school activities, pushing myself hard with my studies that seemed never ending,,and a a hearty laugh with my friends we're just a perfect break for unwinding..but now I realized that some source of our meltdown is not funny at all.At times, it brought us to a limitless level wherein we forgot to be responsible of our actions, putting the values we had in prejudice. I am still having a normal childhood, and naughtiness did not spare me from it. My mom said, there are times that we learned in a hard way. At this point, I can say that I am going thru that stage of my life where I am full of guilt to hurt the person I respect. This is not how I was brought up, but being the optimistic girl that I am,,,this will not put me down...I stood up from where I fall,,acknowledged my mistake, accepted the reprimand, said sorry and promise never to do it again..
Thank You Lord for the enlightenment, for teaching me the value of humility...I am humbled by the experience and I will never cease to be the best of what I can be,,,not to commit the same mistake over again. I promise to be a good person bound to please and serve You,always and forever.

Life's Choices

Quote says:"What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us."
Lei says: The issues of our past and future is incomparable to the issues of our present state. No matter where were from and where were leading, it is still what we are at present that matters most.

Quote says:"In every single thing you do, you are choosing a direction. Your life is a product of choices."
Lei says: From the very beginning, we have received the gift of freewill and intellect. We choose the life we live,,so use the intellect for the common good.

Quote says:"Your attitudes and the choices you make today will be your life tomorrow, build it wisely."
Lei says: We are bound to express ourselves by being just and true to one's self.Yet, I tend to exceed to my boundaries and eventually hurt the people I admired and respected along the way unintentionally. But life is a choice, its not too late to accept my mistakes and learn from it, aim to always be better than the best...:)

An Unexpected Award...awesome and cool:D

'Twas a Saturday of July 2, 2011...We are set to drop off Sun Yat Sen,one of the many Chinese Schools here in Iloilo City where the 2011 Regional Cluster Workshop in Journalism and Golden Pen Awards will be held. It will showcase the techniques and training of what an excellent writing should be. I was anxious, the familiar cold feet everytime we have exams are all over me, yet I have to settle myself, relax and calm my freaking nerves out!..There are many participants from different private schools, i'm wondering if I could just go home and feel the comfort of home..:)nahhh,,it's not good vibes to be a mallow,,so I simply said,,Good Luck Poor Me..The rest was history,,fast forward........the next day, all were advised to be at the Robinsons Iloilo Mall for the Awarding Ceremony...Lo and behold, I was chosen as one of The Most Promising Writer and my entry in Filipino Feature Writing was recognized and won 1st place...whew!im in heaven!Come to think of it, if I just allowed myself to be captured by panic and insecurities,,these certificates and medal might have slipped from my hand..So the moral of my story? Believe in yourself,,,dream and make it real!coz nothing is impossible if we will only give our best, pour our heart and soul out to whatever were doing...with a prayer and huge focus,,,trust me,,dreams do come true!!!:)))
Kapatiran.....June 21-23, 2011
It'a a three day affair aiming for a good camaraderie on AC students particularly in the High School Department...Everyone is participative and excited on the event especially on the second day where we actually put on the costumes of our favorite cartoon characters...It was fun! I can say the event was a hit!!!:)

How?

Education. The thing that all children are longing for. It is all about learning new things and having new experiences. For some children, Education is a dream. A dream that is impossible to reach. A dream that will always be a dream.

As we all know, many Filipino children are not educated and wants to learn. Learning is very important in life. The key to make Philippines a proggresive country is through Education. Education helps a country to change and make better future to children. Education can cut out all the roots that blinded our freedom. Education.

How can I make a change? How can WE make a change? In our own little, special way, we can express our pity to the children in the streets, under the bridges, near dirty waters, wearing teary clothes, holding scrap materials and carrying babies. How?

Actually, Philippines had large amount of talented and smart children. The problem is, they are not discovered. Maybe they can be greater than Michael Jackson or better than Beyonce or smarter than Oprah Winfrey. We don't know.. yet.. How can we change this?

At an early age, they already experienced hunger. They already know how to steal. They already know how to use ciggarettes. They are already addicted to drugs. They are blinded by money. They already know how to kill. Children today are now using their freedom in a wrong way. They can. How?

One of the causes that came out of my mind is Corruption. They are the roots. We always hear "I can make a change" or "Corruption no more". And we? We believe. All those who has a beautiful soul always has beautiful things to say but not all those who say beautiful things had a beautiful soul. We give, they receive. We trust, they hide. Promises.

May this message can help us bring the best of us. May this message can help us live a better life. Just like what they say, "Give a man a fish and he'll live for a day. Teach a man how to fish and he will live for a lifetime"

Music, the beautiful disturber of air.

  • A painter paints pictures on canvas.  But musicians paint their pictures on silence.
  • Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.
  • If the King loves music, it is well with the land.
  • Without music life would be a mistake.
  • Take a music bath once or twice a week for a few seasons.  You will find it is to the soul what a water bath is to the body.
  • If a composer could say what he had to say in words he would not bother trying to say it in music.
  • Why waste money on psychotherapy when you can listen to the B Minor Mass?
  • He who sings, scares away his woes.
  • Music is the poetry of the air.

About Life...

-Quotes-
  • Life is like an onion; you peel off one layer at a time and sometimes you weep.
  • Life is just a phase you're going through...you'll get over it.
  • There are only two tragedies in life: one is not getting what one wants, and the other is getting it.
  • Everything has been figured out, except how to live.
  • The trouble with the rat race is that even if you win you're still a rat.
  • For most men life is a search for the proper manilla envelope in which to get themselves filed.
  • Not a shred of evidence exists in favor of the idea that life is serious.
  • Were it offered to my choice, I should have no objection to a repetition of the same life from its beginning, only asking the advantages authors have in a second edition to correct some faults in the first.

-The End-

(Hay,, kadamu sang mga assignments a.. I wanna sleeeeeeep!! Aurgh... Wa'ever.. LOL! Muah! Muah!)

                                                     (Haha!! Im tooooooo advanced!!)

You may have thought I didn't see,
Or that I hadn't heard,
Life lessons that you taught to me,
But I got every word.

Perhaps you thought I missed it all,
And that we'd grow apart,
But Dad, I picked up everything,
It's written on my heart.

Without you, Dad, I wouldn't be
The lady I am today
You built a strong foundation
No one can take away.

I've grown up with your values,
And I'm very glad I did;
So here's to you, dear father,
From your forever grateful kid.

I Looooove you Daddy!! MUAH!

My Guardian Angel... :)

For my Mom...

I have to thank you daily for all you have done in my life. Though no amount of thanks can compensate or equal the cares, worries, love and resources you expended on me. This is why it has been difficult to write this mail in the first instance.
thank you for providing us with shelter, hugs, love, prayers, and teachings about God and His wonderful ways.
Thank you for teaching us what is right or wrong and the consequences if I misbehave.
You know that I love you forever and always. Mwaaaaaah!!

(tomorrow naman ang para kay Daddy... Tulog na ko.. Byeeeeee!)
